In preparation for the Oscars, a few of us here at Cat Pack Comics (J-Spot, Nip T, Shadow) decided to do our very first TypeCast (“Typed Podcast”, I just came up with this, I’m so great) in which we discuss the nominees, our personal picks, what/who we think will actually win, and Galaxy Quest. We have a bit of a rocky start, but it gets better and we hope you enjoy!
I hate this movie. No, I don’t. I actually thought it was really good. I can’t think of anything to say about it though and I hate that. So I hate myself. Now I hate this movie for making me hate myself. Or do I just hate myself because I’m such a failure? This is my review.
Not my favorite movie or my least favorite of the 9 nominees. but it’s somewhere like 4th or 5th. you could say a 4 or a 5, or a 45. Some people would think that’s funny! Wow this is a hard movie to say things about. BUH.
Just like with Will Forte in Nebraska, I was skeptical about Steve Coogan leading a drama, but I’m very happy to say I worried over nothing. Coogan, playing a cynical political journalist that’s too smart for his own good, was my favorite part of the movie. The happy and oblivious vs. weary pessimist dynamic may be a little played out, but the two leads basically trading their typical characters (Judi Dench is usually the bitter old lady) plays out really well and gives the necessary break from Philomena’s tragic history, collecting altogether into a charmingly British little film.
